FiOS introduces multi-room DVR service
Today, Verizon FiOS introduced their multi-room DVR service. This software update enables the current Motorola QIP6416 HDTV DVR to share and stream television recordings to standard set-top boxes anywhere in your home. The multiroom DVR service also allows you listen to music and view pictures stored on your computer. No additional cabling is required to take advantage of this service — it uses your existing cable.
FiOS charges an extra $7.00/mo for multi-room functionality — the Motorola HDTV DVR with multi-room capability costs $19.95/mo instead of the usual $12.95/mo. Call Verizon to add this service to your account.
Note multi-room functionality is currently limited to sharing and streaming recordings with two standard set-top boxes. An update to support four set-top boxes is in the works. Streaming high-definition recordings, and streaming to HDTV set-top boxes is not currently supported — that capability is planned for another software update, coming 1Q or 2Q 2007.
